There’s a lot going on in Reading. An ambitious programme of new council homes is already underway. But it’s not just about building new homes. We’re building communities, greater capacity in the system, durable strategic partnerships and most importantly, trust with our residents. And for those who can provide leadership across such a vibrant and varied portfolio, we’re a place where reputations are built.
With housing stock of around 7,000 properties, our Housing Landlord Services is a highly visible, customer facing function that is vital to ensuring our communities are safe, well‑managed, and that our tenants can be proud of where they live.
This role’s remit includes Housing Management, Repairs & Property Services and Quality Assurance and will have overall responsibility for our tenants’ experience. As Director, you will ensure we deliver a timely and high‑quality service that achieves value for money through a ‘right first time’ approach.
A planned approach to asset management and maintenance will be key in achieving our decent homes targets and in creating attractive, safe and well‑maintained public realm spaces that residents can be proud of.
Tenant participation will be front and centre of your approach – creating an environment where our customers’ voice and priorities inform and direct how we allocate our resources, ensuring we focus on what matters most to them.
Our in-house delivery model means that highly effective leadership and performance management skills will be vital to success in the role. The ability to engage with the workforce and affect change is essential as we adapt our approach to the new regulatory environment, with an ever‑sharper focus on compliance.
It’s a role that comes with considerable political attention, and the ability to advise and assure at all levels, while carefully managing operational expectations and retaining a focus on agreed strategic priorities will be key.
We expect that you will already be operating in a senior role in a relevant housing or community setting and have a proven ability to manage resources effectively within a regulated housing environment.
Committed to delivering a first‑class tenant experience, you will be resilient and tenacious in pursuit of continuous improvement, building on the good practice already in place and the expertise of a very capable team.
