About Solace Women's Aid

Solace is a registered charity with the Charity Commission for England and Wales. It supports 20,000 women, children, young people and men each year through a range of services, including Refuge Accommodation, Therapeutic Support and Community services. Our holistic approach empowers survivors to rebuild independent lives free from abuse. The charity is governed by a Board of Trustees that includes up to 12 members with diverse professional and life experience. We are looking for trustees who value the equality of all women, are passionate about well‑being, and understand the complexities of violence and abuse.

About the Role

As the HR & Governance Trustee (Subcommittee Chair), you will play a central part in governing the organisation. You will bring strategic HR leadership experience from an organisation of similar scale and complexity. The role requires a committed and enthusiastic trustee who can chair the HR & Governance subcommittee and contribute to the Board’s strategic direction.

Responsibilities

  • Chair the HR & Governance subcommittee and deliver outcomes for the Board.
  • Attend four in‑person Board meetings per year at the London head office.
  • Participate in the Board Away Days, up to two annual sessions.
  • Join at least one subcommittee, attending its quarterly remote meetings.
  • Commit an average of one day per month to strategic duties.

Qualifications

  • Current or recent experience as a strategic HR Director in an organisation comparable to Solace Women's Aid.
  • Strategic thinking, passion for the organisation’s services, and eagerness to share expertise.
  • Strong commitment to equality and advocacy for women’s well‑being.
  • Ambitious outlook for the charity’s future and its impact.
