Soiltechnics are pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual to join one of the region’s leading consultancies, specialising in ground investigations and structural assessments. As a Trainee Fieldwork Operative, you will join our Ground Investigation Team in a hands‑on, site‑based role. You’ll gain practical experience across a wide range of projects throughout the UK, supporting essential site investigation activities and working alongside experienced engineers and field specialists.
About Soiltechnics: Soiltechnics is a UK‑based geoenvironmental and geotechnical engineering consultancy. We work on a wide variety of projects across the country, helping clients understand the ground beneath their sites and deliver safe, sustainable developments. We’re passionate about developing young talent and supporting people at the very start of their careers.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Assisting with site investigations, including soil excavation and sampling
- Supporting activities such as concrete breakout and diamond coring
- Working alongside engineers and drilling teams on active sites
- Recording site data and assisting with basic documentation
- Preparing and maintaining equipment
- Following strict health, safety, and environmental procedures at all times
Our Fieldwork Team supports both Ground Investigation and Structural Fabric operations. Projects vary from rural greenfield sites to complex demolition projects in central London. The role may involve working in confined spaces or at height (e.g. scaffolding or scissor lifts), so a strong commitment to safety is essential.
How you’ll work:
- Primarily site based (approximately 90%)
- Time spent in the Northampton office for equipment preparation, logistics, maintenance and training.
- Travel to sites across the UK (company vehicles provided)
What We’re Looking For:
- Practical, reliable and eager to learn
- Comfortable working outdoors in varied environments
- A strong team player with the ability to take initiative
- Methodical, adaptable and proactive in problem‑solving
- Good communication skills and positive attitude
- A willingness to undertake physical, hands on work
You’ll typically need one of the following:
- A minimum of 5 GCSEs (Grade 4 or above), including Maths and English.
- A-Level, Level 3 BTEC or equivalent qualification (or working toward)
- Basic IT skills (e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook)
- UK Driving License or working towards it
