The Sales Engineer is responsible for developing, managing and driving sales of products and systems across the assigned territories. The role involves driving direct sales and/or managing distributors, which requires a strong technical understanding, commercial acumen, and the ability to build long lasting relationships with customers, consultants, and partners. Ideally this role will be based out of the Uckfield office.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage direct sales and support distributor performance within the assigned territory to achieve agreed revenue targets;
- Build and maintain effective relationships with key customers, consultants and other project decision-makers, maintaining regular contact throughout the sales cycle;
- Identify, track, and progress project opportunities from early concept through to order placement, including preparation and follow-up of quotations;
- Actively generate new business through prospecting, networking, referrals, and market research;
- Provide appropriate technical and commercial guidance to customers and distributors, coordinating with Engineering, Operations, and Service teams as required;
- Support distributor development through communication, product updates, and training, and represent the Company professionally at customer meetings, trade shows, and events;
- Maintain accurate and timely records of sales activity, pipeline, forecasts, and customer information within the CRM and related systems;
- Monitor competitor activity and market trends, providing structured feedback to support sales strategy, marketing activity, and product development;
- Comply with all Company policies, quality and compliance requirements (including ISO 9001 and export controls), and maintain confidentiality of commercial and technical information;
- Undertake other duties as reasonably required by the Company.
Experience, Qualifications & Skills:
- Minimum 3 yearsβ experience in technical sales, preferably in geotechnical, civil, or structural monitoring sectors.
- Good understanding of electromechanical devices.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence technical and commercial stakeholders.
- Competence in preparing quotations, reports, and CRM entries accurately and on time.
- Self-motivated, organised, and capable of working independently within defined objectives.
- Ability to relate well to people, especially other engineers and customers of various nationalities.
- Strong computer skills with modern business software tools (CRM, MRP, Office).
- Full UK driving license.
- Ability to travel up to 30% of time.
- Technical qualification in Engineering, Geotechnics, Instrumentation, or a related discipline (HNC/Degree or equivalent).
- Experience working in a small or medium-sized UK manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of geophysical instrumentation.
Compensation
- Base Salary, depending on experience
- Twenty days holiday plus statutory bank holidays
