The Role..
We’re looking for a pragmatic, results-driven senior engineering professional with a strong backend focus.
Internally, this role will be titled "House Pay Tech Lead".
You’ll design and implement practical solutions, lead by example in championing code quality and engineering standards, and collaborate with both technical teams and business stakeholders across varying levels of technical understanding.
Ruby experience is a plus.
Much of our existing platform is built in Ruby, so you should be comfortable working in and contributing to it, even if it’s not your primary language.
We also welcome polyglot engineers with a background in any mainstream language.
We’re particularly interested in engineers who are quick to pick up new languages, tools, and paradigms as needed, and who stay effective as the technology landscape evolves.
You’ll thrive here if you’re comfortable with autonomy, navigate ambiguity well, and are focused on delivering value quickly.
Key Responsibilities..
- Managing the engineering team in the House Pay area, as well as collaborating closely with technology leadership such as heads and principals when alignments and sign-offs are required
- Leading the team in designing technical solutions to meet product requirements and business needs.
- Lead the team effort across the entire software development life cycle
- Participating in team ceremonies, taking the lead where required
- Identifying and owning architectural and other technical risks.
- Lead by example, championing agreed technical standards and processes to raise the engineering standards of the whole team
- Helping to build and maintain technical roadmaps, looking ahead for future opportunities or blockers and ensuring that the development team aligns with the strategy.
- Helping to develop solutions by contributing to code, testing technologies and producing rapid prototypes.
- Providing advice to the development teams regarding the technical implications of current user stories as well as those in the backlog.
Key Requirements..
- You have prior experience in an engineering leadership role, working closely with cross functional tech teams in a small to medium sized company
- You possess solid expertise in software engineering and architecture design
- You have strong knowledge of various operating systems and databases
- You will have had experience in addressing security and performance concerns effectively.
- Good communication skills and the ability to effectively manage various stakeholders
- Experience of the full range of services in a B2C service environment. Infrastructure, backend, frontend (web and mobile).
Bias towards backend experience.
- Comfortable with using AI tools for coding and other day to day tasks
- You will have had experience with global payment providers, cross-border payments, wallet services and familiarity with network tokens.
- You possess good analytical and debugging skills, and understand the intricacies and pitfalls of payment systems, including not limited to numbers and transactional safety, currency conversions, etc.
