The Role

A Mid-Weight Designer at Soho House is responsible for producing high‐quality project design deliverables from concept generation to both FF&E specification and construction documents. They work on one large, or multiple smaller projects simultaneously overseen by the Senior Designer / Lead Designer on tasks and deliverables to ensure the facilitation of a project's completion.

Key Responsibilities

  • Producing high‐quality project design deliverables from concept phase to construction packages.
  • Works closely with the project team following efficient design management processes and implementation initiatives.
  • Ensures project milestones and deadlines are met under the overview of Senior/Lead Designer where appropriate.
  • Creates project schedules, design drawings and facilitates the prototype process by liaising between the design team and suppliers.
  • Responsible for the project timetable and interior design budget and works closely with Procurement Agent to ensure smooth delivery of his/her projects.
  • Ensures that the integrity of the agreed design solutions are maintained by taking responsibility for the development of the design and the project.
  • Undertakes an ongoing review of subsequent stages with the input from the Lead Designer & Design Director for key project stages.
  • Assigns project hours to Harvest on a daily level.

Team Management

  • Monitors resources on his/her projects.
  • Helps maintain a general staff well‐being and a happy and positive work environment.

Standards / Project Running

  • Ensuring projects follow office standards, and helps keep standards up to date with project info, project admin, and maintaining the design programme.

Project Responsibilities

  • Stage 1: Initial Concept
    • Familiarizes himself/herself with internal project programme/deadlines/budget.
    • Responsible for overall concept direction with the overview of Senior Designer/Lead Designer.
    • Responsible for organizing regular reviews with Lead Designer/Design Director.
  • Stage 2: Detailed Concept
    • Responsible for final layout plan, ensuring that it meets all client/operational requirements.
    • Creates FF&E proposals, schedules with the review of Senior Designer/Lead Designer.
    • Review of FF&E Budget with Procurement Manager.
    • Responsible for ensuring all finishes meet technical, financial and operations requirements.
  • Stage 3: Detailed Design Package
    • Creates Tender Packages.
    • Liaises with Project Design Team to ensure coordination between drawings.
    • Involvement in V.E Workshops.
    • Liaising with Procurement Manager to ensure their understanding of Design Intent.
    • Manages RFIs.
    • Creates construction drawings.
    • Collates and coordinates workshop drawings with the overview of Senior Designer / Lead Designer.
    • Organizes prototype development and reviews with the overview of Lead Designer/Design Director.
  • Stage 4: Site Attendance
    • Attends site meetings.
    • Attends all Design Team Meetings.
    • Works with Procurement Team to coordinate delivery / installation.
  • Stage 5: Installation & Handover
    • Management and coordination of site installation.
    • Creates detailed and user‐friendly handover document.
    • Responsible for snagging and follow‐up process.
