About the role

We’re looking for a hybrid Delivery Lead / Product Owner to work on a new engagement with one of our FS&I clients. You’ll be working as part of a wider Softwire team to prove a new architecture for a data warehouse and that it can meet the needs of various Finance stakeholders. The initial phase of this work is a short 8-week Proof of Value phase, proving the technical architecture and bringing together wider Finance initiatives into a roadmap for future delivery under this architecture.

Your role will include both Delivery Leadership (responsible for the successful day to day delivery of the team) and Product Ownership for a technical data product (turning client priorities into well-defined roadmaps and recommendations) working alongside a Technical Lead and Principal.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the day to day running and execution of the team, ensuring we’re on track to achieve our goals.
  • Bringing together a common view of the wider Finance and Data Office portfolio of change, building a shared view of the roadmap, dependencies and expected value.
  • Working with Finance stakeholders through workshops and engagement sessions to determine their future requirements under this architecture, and consolidating down to an agreed roadmap.

A lot of this is about people. You’ll run workshops, facilitate decisions and manage discussions between stakeholders with competing demands – working in an agile-first way and keeping things moving at pace, while making sure everyone feels heard. This is a hands-on role, with tasks that will vary day to day, so you’ll need to take a pragmatic approach. It’s a London-based role, on site at least three days a week aligned with the wider team and client needs, split between our Softwire office and the client in Aldgate.

Your Experience

  • Have experience in both Delivery Lead & Product Owner roles within Financial Services, including working with senior stakeholders, and have led work that spans the full business change lifecycle – not just the technology build, but the people, process and organisational change needed to make it stick.
  • Have worked alongside Finance functions and across complex data – understanding it well enough to make sense of competing initiatives, shape decisions and bring order to a portfolio of change.
  • Have helped clients bring competing initiatives into a single roadmap and prioritise them – weighing options on cost, ease, risk and value to agree what gets done first.
  • Have run a product backlog through to delivery, working closely with a Product Owner on definition and prioritisation, and kept the team delivering at a steady pace.
  • Have planned and facilitated workshops to explore problem statements and reach decisions with the people in the room.
  • Have experience in process analysis and optimisation, including techniques such as Value Stream Mapping to identify waste and drive meaningful improvements.
  • Have worked across programmes involving multiple teams, using scaled agile approaches such as SAFe, LeSS or Scrum at Scale, and are familiar with lean and agile tools and principles.
  • Have a history of solving problems, managing risks and overcoming challenges.
  • Have worked in multidisciplinary teams, including directly with developers and technical leads.
  • Show evidence of a dedication to continuous improvement – both supporting and coaching a team and in your own ways of working.

Your Approach

  • Are comfortable taking the initiative and working with ambiguity.
  • Are able to ramp-up quickly to support the initial 8 week phase.
  • Can communicate clearly, including explaining technical concepts to people from diverse backgrounds in a way that is meaningful to them.
  • Have an interest in how business change is run, so technology and change support each other.
  • Are able to effectively engage and collaborate with a variety of client stakeholders, including when they have low availability.
  • Understand the commercial dynamics of client engagements and can balance client outcomes with Softwire’s business interests.
