Role Overview:
We are seeking a Mainframe Test Lead to oversee and manage testing activities for subsystem upgrades on DB2, IMS, and IBM MQ . This position requires in-depth knowledge of mainframe environments , regression testing strategies, and validation processes to ensure no impact on business applications following system upgrades. You\’ll be responsible for planning, executing, and overseeing testing activities, ensuring full test coverage and evidence documentation across mainframe interfaces and APIs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the full testing lifecycle for mainframe upgrades across DB2, IMS, and MQ
- Validate subsystem upgrades and ensure no regression on application functionality
- Design test strategy, plan, and review cases for mainframe and associated APIs
- Conduct integration testing for APIs, IMS transactions, and MQ message flows
- Automate test cases where feasible and manage test data effectively
- Collaborate with development and QA teams for end-to-end validation
- Log and manage defects using JIRA or HP ALM
- Maintain quality standards and ensure compliance with testing best practices
Requirements:
- Proven experience in mainframe testing with COBOL, JCL, DB2
- Hands-on expertise with IMS/CICS and IBM MQ subsystems
- Strong background in API testing using tools like Postman , SoapUI , or ReadyAPI
- Familiar with JIRA , Xray , or similar test management platforms
- Working knowledge of Agile and DevOps delivery models
- Excellent analytical, documentation, and stakeholder communication skills
