Our new Technical Manager will take full ownership of food safety, quality, legality and customer standards across the production area (Primary or Added Value) within Sofina Foods’ Malton site. Reporting into the Site Head of Technical, this role provides clear technical leadership to both their Technical team and the wider operational function. This is a highly visible role with responsibility for GMP, HACCP, BRCGS, customer standards, export compliance and regulatory engagement. You will lead audits, drive continuous improvement, and act as the trusted technical authority on site, ensuring standards are not only met, but strengthened. This role is based in Malton, 5 days a week.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Owning food safety, quality, legality and GMP standards across the Primary or Added Value operations.
- Leading and developing the Technical team, setting clear expectations and building capability.
- Acting as the technical lead for customer-facing activity, including specifications, audits and issue resolution.
- Managing relationships with competent authorities including FSA, OV, DEFRA and MHS.
- Leading export compliance requirements (including USDA, China, South Korea and Australia).
- Preparing for and leading internal and external audits, delivering robust corrective actions and sustained improvement.
- Working closely with Operations, Supply Chain and Commercial teams to embed technical standards into daily decision-making.
- Driving continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen systems, reduce risk and improve site performance.
The Ideal Candidate
You will be an experienced technical professional who is confident operating in a fast-paced, regulated manufacturing environment. You will bring:
- Strong experience in technical or quality leadership within food manufacturing (protein or meat advantageous).
- In-depth knowledge of HACCP, BRCGS (v9), GMP and food safety management systems.
- Proven experience leading customer, regulatory and certification audits.
- A track record of developing teams and improving technical culture and compliance.
- Confidence working cross-functionally and influencing operational decision-making.
- A practical, solutions-focused approach with high attention to detail.
Qualifications
- Degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Microbiology or a related discipline (preferred).
- Formal training in HACCP, food safety standards and internal auditing teams.
