Role Timeline

  • Year 1 Apprentices: Your first year will focus on foundational learning and developing core engineering skills, both in college and on-site.
  • Years 2–4 Apprentices: As you gain experience and qualifications, you will take on increasing levels of responsibility and independence.

Your Key Responsibilities (Year 1)

  • Typical activities include attending college according to the programme schedule (1–5 days per week, depending on day release, block release, or full‑time model), and attending the site during college holidays unless pre‑arranged leave is approved by your manager.
  • Subject coverage throughout the year includes basics of mechanical and electrical maintenance; fabrication and welding; electrical wiring, installation, and testing; bench fitting; CAD (Computer‑Aided Design); and advanced maths and science as required.
  • On‑site supervised activities involve observing breakdown responses and problem diagnosis, monitoring daily maintenance of slicing, packaging, and retail machines, supporting hygienic strip‑down and supervised rebuild of machinery, and learning maintenance of temperature control equipment.
  • Professional conduct requires acting as a site ambassador and interacting professionally and courteously with stakeholders.

Recognition: achievements such as Apprentice of the Year will be acknowledged and rewarded by the company.
