We're looking for a General Vocational Trades Instructor to join our Learning & Skills team at HMP Addiewell. In this rewarding role, you'll deliver engaging vocational training, helping learners gain recognised qualifications and develop the practical and transferable skills needed to support successful rehabilitation and future employment. Main Responsibilities
- You'll deliver engaging, practical training across a variety of vocational areas, including:
- Manufacturing
- Fabric and Textile Work
- Sleep Pod Production
- Traditional trades and industry work parties
- Other vocational programmes as required
Working with learners at different stages of their educational journey, you'll create an inclusive and supportive environment that builds confidence, develops practical and transferable skills, and encourages positive engagement with learning.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging vocational training programmes.
- Prepare lesson plans, schemes of work and learning resources.
- Assess learner progress and maintain accurate educational records.
- Prepare learners for internal and external qualifications where appropriate.
- Monitor attendance, achievement and progression.
- Support prisoners in developing transferable employability and life skills.
- Encourage participation and actively recruit learners into education programmes.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues, prison staff and awarding organisations.
- Maintain quality standards, inventory records and tool control procedures.
- Ensure compliance with teaching, assessment and quality assurance requirements.
- Contribute to course reviews and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Help learners prepare for further education, employment and successful reintegration into the community.
The Ideal Candidate
We're looking for someone who is enthusiastic, adaptable and committed to making a positive difference. You’ll ideally have:
- Experience delivering training, teaching, coaching or mentoring.
- A recognised teaching qualification at SCQF Level 7 (or equivalent), or a willingness to achieve this within 18 months.
- Experience in vocational trades, manufacturing, industrial environments or practical skills training.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organisational and planning abilities.
- The ability to adapt your teaching style to suit different learning needs.
- A genuine interest in rehabilitation, education and supporting others to succeed.
Package Description
£30,145 per annum
Hours: Full Time - 40 hours per week (including occasional evenings and weekends as required)
