The Role
We are seeking an Electrician to join our Facilities Management team at HMP Peterborough. This is a key role in ensuring the site remains safe, secure, and fully operational for staff, visitors, and residents. You will deliver a high-quality electrical maintenance and installation service, ensuring the safe and reliable operation of all low-voltage (LV) electrical systems across the site. This includes maintaining and developing LV distribution systems, carrying out new installations, and supporting compliance with statutory regulations and safety standards. In addition to electrical duties, you will also undertake general maintenance tasks across other trades (such as plumbing, carpentry, and painting) to ensure the continued operation of essential services.
Main Responsibilities
- Maintain, inspect, and repair LV electrical systems, control panels, lighting, and associated equipment
- Design and install new LV electrical systems as required
- Carry out planned and reactive maintenance efficiently and safely
- Ensure all work complies with health, safety, and security requirements
- Participate in the on-call rota and respond to emergency situations
- Support the training and supervision of prisoners assisting with maintenance work
- Escort and oversee contractors, ensuring compliance with site procedures and safety standards
The Ideal Candidate
You will:
- Hold a City & Guilds NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation (or equivalent) and have completed AM2
- Have completed a time-served electrical apprenticeship with a minimum of 5 years' experience as an electrician
- Hold a 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671) qualification
- Have experience as a Low Voltage Authorised Person (LVAP) or be willing to undertake training
- Be confident working in a secure environment with strict health, safety, and security procedures
- Be adaptable, proactive, and able to work independently and as part of a team
- Have strong communication and problem-solving skills

Package Description
Salary: up to 37,700 per annum (depending on experience)
Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday (08:00-16:00)
Additional: On-call rota and overtime as required
