Heating Engineer, to join our Facilities Management team at HMP Northumberland.

This is an opportunity to use your specialist skills in a role that combines technical expertise with a genuine contribution to the safe operation of a secure environment.

As part of our maintenance team, you'll be responsible for carrying out gas safety inspections, testing, servicing, maintenance and repairs across the prison estate, ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently and in line with current legislation and industry standards.

  • What you'll be doing
  • Carrying out commercial gas safety inspections, testing, servicing and maintenance.
  • Completing CP15 and CP17 inspections and certification.
  • Diagnosing faults and carrying out repairs to commercial gas-fired heating, hot water and ventilation systems.
  • Reading and interpreting technical drawings, schematics and manufacturer instructions.
  • Undertaking planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance.
  • Maintaining accurate gas safety records and ensuring all documentation is completed within legal and company requirements.
  • Supporting general maintenance activities within your skill set and working collaboratively with the wider engineering team.
  • Escorting specialist contractors where required.
  • Participating in the out-of-hours on-call rota.
  • Working in accordance with all Health & Safety legislation, Gas Safe regulations and Sodexo policies and procedures.

What we're looking for

  • Current Gas Safe Registered Engineer status.
  • Completion of a recognised Commercial Gas/Heating apprenticeship.
  • Relevant commercial gas qualifications including: ACSCOCN1, CDGA1, ICPN1.
  • Industry-recognised heating qualifications.
  • Experience maintaining and repairing commercial gas-fired equipment and heating systems.
  • Strong knowledge of commercial gas safety legislation and compliance requirements.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent organisational and record-keeping skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A proactive approach to planned and reactive maintenance.

About the role: This is a varied, hands-on position where no two days are the same.

The role can be physically demanding and will involve activities such as climbing, crawling, lifting and working in confined spaces.

You'll also be responsible for the safe use and security of tools and equipment.

Additional training may be provided where required, including specialist prison maintenance training such as locksmithing to support wider site maintenance requirements.
