We are seeking a skilled and motivated Water Hygiene Engineer to join our engineering team at Merville Barracks, Colchester, CO2 7UT. In this vital role, you will support the Water Technical Officer in ensuring that all services meet the standards detailed in the Service Level Agreement (SLA), KPIs, and contractual obligations. You will be responsible for completing planned preventative maintenance (PPM), remedial, and emergency works in line with water hygiene regulations and best practices.
What you'll do:
- Support the Water Technical Officer in maintaining and developing service standards.
- Deliver high-quality water hygiene PPMs, remedial works, and emergency callouts.
- Work in compliance with ACOP L8, HSG274 Part 2 & 3, HTM04-01, BS 8558, BS 8680, and other relevant standards.
- Conduct temperature monitoring, weekly flushing, microbiological and chemical sampling, TMV servicing, and tank inspections.
- Carry out tank cleans and disinfections, filtration servicing, and purging of expansion vessels and calorifiers/water heaters.
- Perform shower and spray tap descaling, Zip tea boiler servicing, and assist in closed system analysis and treatment.
- Maintain excellent standards of client communication, workplace hygiene, and PPE compliance.
- Participate in team meetings, performance reviews, and ongoing training and development.
- Support additional ad-hoc or administrative duties as required.
What you bring:
- Previous experience in a Water Hygiene operational role.
- Strong knowledge of relevant legislation and standards (ACOP L8, HSG274, HTM04-01, etc.).
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage a varied workload.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong time management and problem‐solving skills.
Desirable:
- Experience working within a military or MOD environment.
- Previous experience in a senior or supervisory engineering role.
- Recognised qualification in Water Hygiene or Legionella control.
- Knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Experience with swimming pool maintenance and closed system treatment.
- Demonstrated leadership and mentoring skills.
