We are seeking a skilled Legal Counsel to join Sodexo UK&I on a 12‑month maternity cover contract. In this role, you will provide high‑quality legal and commercial advice across a wide range of complex matters, including regulatory requirements, outsourcing contracts, variations and disputes. You will lead on the management of disputes and litigation, proactively identify and mitigate legal risks, and ensure our business remains fully informed in an increasingly regulated and competitive environment.
A commitment to maintaining up‑to‑date legal knowledge and adhering to the professional Code of Conduct is essential as you support Sodexo UK&I with practical, solutions‑focused guidance.
Responsibilities- Providing effective legal and commercial advice and assistance as required by the Segments/Functions supported
- Drafting and negotiating contracts (client, supplier facing, partnerships)
- Advising on large complex projects and outsourcing contracts, variations and disputes
- Government/public sector procurement
- Assisting the Segments/Functions supported regarding the assessment and management of legal and commercial risk
- Training the Segments/Functions supported on legal, commercial and regulatory issues
- Helping to ensure that business is conducted in accordance with relevant law and Sodexo’s internal governance processes
- Instructing external lawyers and managing external legal fees under appropriate supervision
- Working collaboratively with all members of the UK&I Legal Department
- Providing preliminary advice on disputes and litigation
- Advising on regulatory compliance
- Ensuring compliance with company policies and Legal Department processes
- Educated to degree level or equivalent
- Qualification gained in top tier law firm and in‑house legal experience in relevant industry desirable
- Qualified solicitor or barrister in the UK or equivalent jurisdiction
- Demonstrated experience of commercial law and contracts (from supply chain contracts to large high‑value client facing outsourcing contracts)
- Public Procurement knowledge and experience
- Experienced at advising on legal and commercial options
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Excellent drafting and negotiation skills
- Ability to manage relationships successfully with Sodexo representatives
- Proven ability to balance and prioritise a large workload in a fast‑pace environment
