Hours: Monday to Friday. Location: No fixed location – Travel required around the London area/Ireland. This role does require regular travel to our sites across the London area and occasional travel to Ireland.
Role Purpose
The Food Safety and Health & Safety Manager is responsible for driving high standards of food safety and supporting health and safety compliance across a portfolio of catering operations. The role ensures all services are delivered safely, compliantly, and in line with Sodexo UK & Ireland policies, while promoting a strong, proactive safety culture.
Key Responsibilities
- Food Safety (Primary Focus)
- Lead the implementation of the Food Safety Management System across multi-site catering operations.
- Conduct food safety audits, inspections, and hygiene reviews.
- Provide expert advice on HACCP, allergen management, hygiene, temperature control, and supplier assurance.
- Support, coach, and train catering managers and teams in food safety best practice.
- Manage corrective actions and ensure timely closure of non-conformances.
- Liaise with Environmental Health Officers and external authorities as required.
- Support implementation of Health & Safety policies, procedures, and risk management initiatives.
- Promote a positive safety culture, including near-miss reporting.
- Lead accident and incident investigations and root cause analysis.
- Support business continuity and risk management activity.
- Monitor performance against safety targets and KPIs.
- Provide monthly and quarterly performance updates.
- Ensure timely reporting and investigation of all food safety and HSE incidents.
Accountabilities
- Compliance with all relevant food safety and health & safety legislation and company standards.
- Effective support to operational teams, adding value and driving improvement.
- Delivery of initiatives that support Sodexo and client safety targets.
- Reduction in incidents and improvement in safety performance indicators.
Person Specification
- Essential Degree (or equivalent) in Food Science, Environmental Health, or related discipline.
- Level 4 Award in Food Safety (or equivalent).
- NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent.
- Strong knowledge of UK food safety legislation and HACCP.
- Experience in a multi-site catering or foodservice environment.
- Excellent communication and influencing skills.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel.
