What You'll Do:
- Prepare and present food in line with company standards, drive recipes, and full allergen awareness prior to service
- Support the Catering Manager in leading the kitchen team and ensuring high standards of food preparation and presentation
- Maintain compliance with all legal, food safety, and hygiene regulations at all times
- Assist in loading and replenishing service counters, ensuring sufficient stock throughout service while following style guides and current promotions
- Accept deliveries, check and record temperatures, and store items correctly in line with Safeguard procedures and management direction
- Carry out thorough cleaning of kitchen equipment and areas (including walls, floors, fixtures, and fittings) according to the cleaning rota
- Ensure all work areas and equipment are left clean, organised, and ready for use
- Maintain high standards of personal hygiene and cleanliness in line with statutory and company requirements
- Respond promptly to incidents such as fire, theft, damaged goods, or unfit food, and report any irregularities
- Handle and report customer complaints, taking appropriate action where possible
- Assist with catering for special functions, including occasional work outside normal hours
- Support other local units when required, including providing cover during staff absences
- Participate in training, meetings, and development opportunities as requested (including travel if required)
- Stay engaged with best practices and company updates (e.g., internal platforms and communications)
Essential:
- Experience cooking on a large scale (100-1300 students)
- Experience following recipes in a professional kitchen
- Prior staff supervision or line management experience
- Strong knowledge of fresh produce and ingredient preparation
- Understanding of health and safety regulations and the ability to enforce them
- Ability to work under pressure in a busy kitchen environment
- Positive leadership, professionalism, and a passion for food
- Hold basic food handling certifications, including NVQ Level 2 and Level 2 Food Safety Certificate
- At least one year of hands-on cooking experience (Training in Food Hygiene and Health & Safety provided)
- Flexibility to support different sites, functions, and working hours when required
- Proactive attitude in handling issues, incidents, and customer feedback
- Willingness to undertake training and continuous professional development
