About the Role
In this role, you’ll take the lead in directing the campus Hard FM/engineering function, managing a multi-disciplinary team and contractors to deliver safe, compliant M&E services, planned and reactive maintenance, and audit-ready operations against SLAs/KPIs, ensuring exceptional service and operational efficiency. You will manage 2 Supervisors and 13 Engineers, therefore great people management skills are essential. Your impact will be felt every day as you collaborate with a team dedicated to keeping the estate running smoothly for students and staff, strengthening statutory compliance and H&S, optimising resources and supplier performance, and elevating client satisfaction across the university.
What you’ll do
- Lead, motivate, and develop a multi-skilled Hard FM team, setting clear objectives and driving high performance across engineering, compliance, and support roles
- Oversee the delivery of planned and reactive maintenance (PPM & reactive) across all M&E systems, ensuring services are safe, compliant, and delivered to SLA/KPI targets
- Ensure full statutory compliance across the estate, including maintaining accurate logbooks, audit readiness, and adherence to Safe Systems of Work and Permit to Work procedures
- Manage subcontractors and suppliers, ensuring high standards of safety, quality, and performance across all outsourced works
- Monitor and improve service delivery through data, audits, and performance reporting, identifying opportunities to enhance efficiency, quality, and customer satisfaction
- Coordinate labour, resources, and materials effectively, working closely with the service desk to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of all maintenance activities
- Build strong relationships with key stakeholders, including university partners and internal teams, ensuring clear communication and a collaborative approach to service excellence
What We’re Looking For
- The individual will require a high level of knowledge of building services systems and lead the site team from a technical perspective with a high level of technical ability.
- Will hold a recognised trade, electrical, mechanical, plumbing.
- Minimum 2 years management experience of a diverse workforce
- Minimum 2 years’ experience working within a TFM / IFM environment.
- Confident in using Microsoft Office suite.
- Experienced in compiling performance reports and competent in presenting to management.
- Experience of using time management and payroll applications, including resource planning
- Extensive experience of hard services and associated regulations
- Have a good understanding of risk assessments and safe systems of work.
- Experience of preparing for internal and external FM audits
- Confident at building client and stakeholder relationships
