An exciting opportunity has arisen at Royal Stoke Hospital for a skilled professional to work in conjunction with the Electrical Team, supporting the day‑to‑day operation, management, and maintenance of electrical systems and staff across the hospital estate.
What You’ll Do
- Organise and manage engineers’ daily workloads, ensuring all electrical, mechanical, and medical gas systems are maintained to a high standard in line with HTM guidance and audit requirements.
- Act as an Authorised Person (AP) for medical gas systems and PSSR‑regulated plant, including fault diagnosis, repair, testing, and compliance with HTM 02 series and statutory legislation.
- Ensure the safe operation, maintenance, and compliance of all plant, equipment, and utilities across the PFI hospital estate.
- Deliver cost‑effective Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and manage reactive maintenance services, including participation in an out‑of‑hours call‑out rota.
- Control contractors, permits to work, and safe systems of work, ensuring compliance with the Project Agreement and Health & Safety legislation.
- Support Engineering Management in meeting contractual response and rectification times, performance monitoring, and avoidance of service failures or penalties.
- Provide technical leadership, hands‑on support, training, and guidance to engineering staff, fostering a strong team‑based approach.
- Use CAFM, BMS, and other IT systems to monitor performance, manage assets, and produce quality assurance and management reports.
- Communicate effectively with Trust managers, clinical and non‑clinical staff, and represent Hard FM in relevant compliance and safety working groups.
- Investigate compliance failures, drive continuous improvement, and contribute to the commercial and operational management of the maintenance contract.
What You Bring
- Fully competent in BS 7671 (18th Edition) regulations; 2391 Test & Inspection qualification desirable.
- Qualified in electrical engineering (C&G/BTEC or equivalent), with a recognised apprenticeship or time‑served experience.
- Extensive hands‑on experience in electrical maintenance, fault‑finding, repairs, and interpreting technical drawings.
- Proven ability to diagnose and repair plant and equipment, including UPS and generator backup systems.
- Strong knowledge of Health & Safety at Work regulations, with the ability to produce clear technical reports.
- Confident, adaptable, and calm under pressure, with strong problem‑solving and decision‑making skills.
- Computer literate, ideally with experience of BMS or similar systems, and strong verbal, written, and numerical skills.
- Positive, proactive team player with excellent time management, able to work independently and willing to undertake further training.
