We are looking for a Deputy Centre Manager to join our team at Merville Barracks, Circular Road South, Colchester to support catering, retail, and coffee shop operations. You will lead the front-of-house catering team in the Junior Ranks Diner, deputise for the Centre Manager, and drive performance through promotions and marketing initiatives. The role also includes conducting performance reviews and development plans for your team. This is a great opportunity for a strong leader with experience in catering, hospitality, or retail management.

What you’ll do:

  • Manage the front-of-house catering team in the Junior Ranks Diner.
  • Deputise for the Centre Manager across catering, retail, and coffee shops.
  • Drive performance by ensuring adherence to promotional activity and marketing initiatives.
  • Conduct performance reviews and development plans for direct reports.
  • Adhere to local client site rules and regulations and role model safe behaviour.
  • Assist in planning, organising, and coordinating all catering activity, including functions, menus, and costing.
  • Maintain service standards as outlined in service agreements and contractual terms.
  • Grow services to meet client and commercial expectations while maintaining budgetary control.
  • Ensure the highest food and hygiene standards are upheld at all times.
  • Maintain excellent client and customer relationships through effective communication.
  • Attend team briefs, huddles, and meetings, as well as performance development reviews.
  • Maintain a clean, tidy work area, high levels of personal hygiene, and wear appropriate uniform/PPE.
  • Ensure effective communication with line manager, team, customers, and client organisations.
  • Supervise front-of-house, catering, retail, and leisure services in the absence of the Centre Manager.

What you bring:

  • Demonstrate experience of working in a similar role within the service industry at a comparable level in a company.
  • Good numerical and communication skills, must be able to demonstrate effective verbal and written communication.
  • Management knowledge of health & safety and food safety.
  • Able to work on own initiative within a team environment.
  • Able to demonstrate working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel and Outlook).
  • Proven experience in hospitality sector, including stock management, cash control and customer service.
  • Able to demonstrate attention to detail and adherence to standards.
  • Analyse problems analytically, develop opportunities and implement innovative solutions.

Desirable:

  • Proven experience of managing client relationships.
  • Experience of working in a military environment.
