We are looking for a confident and motivated Front of House Team Leader to join our team at Merville Barracks, Colchester, CO2 7UT. This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll play a key part in delivering service excellence, supporting your team, and ensuring the smooth day-to-day operation of the catering and retail offer.
As Front of House Team Leader, you will lead by example, ensuring outstanding customer service while maintaining the highest standards of food safety, cleanliness, and compliance. You'll support your line manager in driving performance, developing your team, and delivering a first-class service to customers and clients.
What you’ll do:
- Deliver exceptional service excellence and customer care at all times
- Supervise, motivate, train and develop the front of house team
- Monitor standards, ensuring compliance with company policies, procedures and legislation
- Assist your line manager in driving sales, efficiencies and key business KPIs
- Work collaboratively across all units and departments to ensure contract delivery
- Deputise for the Deputy Centre Manager when required
- Manage staffing, including shift allocation, task delegation and training
- Act as the first point of contact for customer queries and complaints, resolving issues professionally
- Ensure all areas are clean, safe and maintained to service standards
- Manage stock rotation, markdowns, ordering and delivery checks in line with policy
- Ensure accurate use of Kronos and effective staffing records
- Champion allergen awareness and a Zero Harm mindset
- Conduct performance reviews and development plans for direct reports
- Lead team briefs, huddles and meetings as required
- Maintain excellent client and customer relationships
- Report near misses, accidents and faulty equipment promptly
- Oversee shifts and make operational decisions to ensure service continuity
- Continue to develop your own skills and complete required training
What you bring:
- Previous experience in a catering or hospitality operational role
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to work on your own initiative
- Ability to work effectively within a team environment
- Desirable:
- Previous experience supervising or leading a team
- Working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Strong problem-solving skills with an analytical and innovative approach
- Food Safety Level 3 qualification
