What you'll do

What you'll do

  • Prepare, cook and serve high-quality meals, ensuring food is presented to a consistently high standard.
  • Take responsibility for the smooth running of the catering service during your shifts, ensuring agreed service standards are achieved.
  • Provide a friendly and professional service, helping to create a great experience for customers.
  • Plan and organise food preparation and service to ensure everything is ready on time.
  • Take responsibility for ordering goods and maintaining appropriate stock levels.
  • Manage stock effectively, including stock rotation, portion control and reducing food waste.
  • Support the achievement of food cost and margin targets while maintaining excellent quality.
  • Ensure the kitchen, food preparation and storage areas are clean, organised and secure.
  • Follow all food hygiene, Health & Safety, fire safety and safe working procedures.
  • Maintain accurate food safety and compliance records and support the achievement of required audit standards.
  • Ensure allergen and food safety requirements are followed throughout food preparation and service.
  • Support and guide catering colleagues during your shift, helping the team deliver a consistently high standard of service.
  • Respond positively to customer feedback and look for opportunities to improve the catering service.
  • Use company systems and Microsoft Office where required to complete records and administration.
  • Maintain high standards of personal hygiene and professional appearance.
  • Support other areas of the catering operation when required and undertake relevant training to continue developing your skills.
  • Flexibility to support other areas of the catering operation when required.

Requirements

  • A 706/2, NVQ Level 2 Chef qualification or equivalent.
  • Previous experience working as a Cook or Chef within a busy catering environment.
  • Experience supporting or overseeing a catering service and working effectively with a team.
  • Good knowledge of food hygiene, food safety and Health & Safety requirements.
  • Experience with stock control, ordering and managing food costs.
  • The ability to prepare and cook food confidently while maintaining consistent standards of quality and presentation.
  • Good organisational skills with the ability to plan your workload and manage changing priorities.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • A self‑motivated approach with the confidence to work on your own initiative when required.
  • The ability to remain calm, organised and positive during busy service periods.
  • Good IT skills, including experience using Microsoft Office.
  • A willingness to learn, develop your skills and complete any required training.
  • Previous experience supporting or training other team members would be beneficial.
  • An IOSH Managing Safely qualification would be advantageous but isn't essential.
