Job Introduction

We are seeking a reliable and professional individual for the Building Craftsperson at Royal Stoke Hospital with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work confidently under pressure. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, adaptable to changing priorities, and have a solid understanding of Health and Safety. Excellent communication, report writing, and computer skills are essential. Relevant trade qualifications and experience in maintenance or healthcare environments are desirable. What You\’ll Do:

  • Planned Maintenance (PPM):
    Inspect and service building elements (doors, windows, walls, floors, ceilings), fire doors, and fixtures per HTM 05-02.

  • Reactive Repairs:
    Fix faults and damage to walls, ceilings, floors, and fittings. Replace or adjust locks, door closers, and access controls.

  • Minor Works & Installations:
    Build shelves, cupboards, and similar items. Install locks, key safes, dispensers, and brackets in clinical/non-clinical areas.

  • Fire Safety Compliance:
    Maintain fire compartmentation and protection systems. Inspect and repair seals, fire-rated materials, and barriers.

  • Health & Safety:
    Follow safety procedures, use PPE, handle tools safely, and work within COSHH and Working at Height regulations.

  • Records & Teamwork:
    Log work on CAFM systems, complete records, support team tasks, and attend training to stay compliant.

What You Bring:

Essential:

  • Reliable, professional, and self-motivated.

  • Confident decision-maker with strong problem-solving skills.

  • Able to adapt to changing priorities and work under pressure.

  • Good understanding of Health and Safety.

  • Strong communication, report writing, and computer skills.

  • Willing to work overtime and attend training as needed.

Desirable:

  • Relevant apprenticeship or NVQ Level 2/3.

  • Health & Safety certifications (e.g., IOSH, Asbestos Awareness).

  • Access equipment qualifications (PASMA, IPAF).

  • Fire door and passive fire protection knowledge.

  • Experience in maintenance, healthcare, or live environment
