As Cook Manager (Maternity Cover) for Sodexo at Lickey Hills Primary School, you will oversee all aspects of food and beverage operations, manage the kitchen budget, and ensure the highest standards of food quality and service. You will lead a kitchen team, foster a positive work environment, and maintain the school’s reputation for excellent catering.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the replenishment of food and the dismantling of work areas at the end of service.
- Develop, mentor, and conduct training for the kitchen team.
- Control the complete catering operation, including labour, food, and stock expenses.
- Manage and optimise all controllable costs.
- Ensure uniformity in food and service standards for staff, visitors, and students.
- Manage the creation and development of menus.
- Conduct routine audits to ensure standards are being followed.
Qualifications:
- Experience cooking on a large scale for 100–1300 students.
- Ability to follow recipes in a similar setting.
- Previous staff supervision or line management experience.
- Experience working with fresh produce and ingredients.
- Awareness of health and safety procedures.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines in a busy kitchen.
- Professional demeanor, leading by example, and a positive outlook.
- Basic food handling certification (NVQ Level 2 or equivalent).
- Minimum 1 year of hands-on cooking, food hygiene, and health & safety training.
- Will be required to undergo safeguarding and suitability checks as per policy.
Compensation & Benefits:
- £14.50 per hour
- 30 hours per week (Monday – Friday, 8 am – 2 pm)
- Fixed-term 1-year contract, term-time only (39 weeks paid over 52 weeks)
