As a Mess Supervisor at Sodexo at RAF Halton Sergeants' Mess, Wendover HP22 5PG, you will supervise all services within the Mess operational business area, leading the front‑of‑house team to ensure the smooth delivery of dining, bar, hospitality, and function services. Supporting the Manager, you will help ensure service standards, KPIs and contractual requirements are consistently achieved while overseeing the performance and development of your team. Your role is customer‑facing, with a key focus on delivering exceptional service to our Armed Forces personnel every day, ensuring all daily operations and functions meet MOD and company standards.
Responsibilities
- Develop your own skills and knowledge within the position, including required training courses.
- Maintain excellent client/customer relationships.
- Attend team briefs, huddles and meetings as required.
- Attend your performance development review to discuss job standards and agree development activities.
- Maintain a clean and tidy work area and high levels of personal hygiene, wearing the appropriate uniform and PPE.
- Care for all available resources including equipment, materials and supplies as directed.
- Report any near‑miss occurrences, accidents or faulty equipment to management.
- Ensure effective communication with line manager, team, customer and client organisation.
- Maintain all areas of responsibility to the set service standards and in line with applicable service offer.
- Supervise the team fairly and drive engagement.
- Handle and secure all cash, stock and equipment within the department.
- Maintain cleanliness of the dining room and associated areas, including the transport, by completing all tasks allocated on the cleaning schedule.
- Assist with refreshment services and functions within other units when required.
- Assist in function preparation.
- Ensure correct use, storage and control of machinery, equipment, cleaning materials and chemicals, following safe systems of work.
- Immediately report any defects to your line manager.
- Carry out regular processes such as changing barrels, pipe cleaning, stocking up, etc.
- Follow order monitoring procedures to ensure replacement orders are made promptly.
- Check in deliveries in line with procedures and notify line manager of any discrepancies.
- Prepare and serve drinks behind the bar, including cellar duties.
- Supervise catering delivery in the Mess, including food preparation, cooking, presentation, storage and disposal, monitoring practices to ensure company and legislative requirements are met.
- Carry out any other reasonable tasks and/or instructions as directed by management.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in a catering/mess operational role.
- Clear verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work on own initiative within a team environment.
- Attention to detail and adherence to standards.
- Clean Driving Licence.

- Experience of working within a military environment.
- Previous experience supervising a team.
- Leadership skills and knowledge.
- Knowledge/qualification in Health & Safety and Food Safety.
- Working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
