Job Introduction: As a Ration Stores Person at Larkhill Garrison, Larkhill, Wiltshire, SP4 8QT, you’ll play a vital role in supporting the day-to-day delivery of food, ration accounting, and stores operations. This is a key position ensuring accurate food accounting, effective stock control, and full compliance with MOD and company policies. Your work will directly support operational units, messes, and colleagues across the garrison.
What you’ll do:
- Ration Accounting: Collect and check daily feeding numbers from units and messes; record food income, expenditure, supplements, and other adjustments accurately; convert food entitlements into cash values; check supplier invoices against delivery notes and confirm accuracy; enter invoices, credits, and internal transfers onto food accounts; compile food income and expenditure accounts for all messes in line with MOD and contract (SOR) requirements; produce daily, weekly, and monthly income and expenditure reports; carry out monthly checks and reconciliations of accounts; prepare accounts for period close-down and audit; inform DFSM of actual numbers fed; file and store all ration and account documents correctly for audit purposes.
- Stores Duties: Receive, check, and accept deliveries; ensure rations and food items are stored, issued, and delivered correctly; confirm daily picking lists; monitor stock levels and carry out regular stock takes; input internal stock transfers across all locations; resolve delivery and stock discrepancies with suppliers; maintain accurate records in inventory management systems; ensure all work is carried out in line with current legislation and company policy; carry out basic office duties such as filing and handling post when required.
What you bring:
- Experience in a stores, ration accounting, inventory, or stock control role (MOD environment desirable).
- Strong IT skills, with confidence using Microsoft Office and inventory/accounting systems.
- Excellent organisational and attention-to-detail skills.
- Ability to work accurately with financial and stock data.
- Forklift/counterbalance licence (desirable – please ask manager).
- Ability to work independently while liaising effectively with suppliers, messes, and internal stakeholders.
