Are you an experienced fire safety professional with a strong background in compliance, risk assessment, and estate-wide fire safety management? We have an exciting opportunity for a Fire Officer to join our team at i2020, Belfast, BT5 6LB. This is a specialist role responsible for ensuring full compliance with all statutory, regulatory, and contractual fire safety obligations across a complex multi-site estate. You will play a key role in maintaining a safe, resilient, and fully compliant environment through robust governance, inspections, reporting, and stakeholder engagement.
As the Fire Officer, you will provide expert fire safety leadership across the estate, ensuring all fire risk assessments, safety systems, equipment, and infrastructure are effectively managed and maintained to the highest standards. Working closely with the client, operational teams, contractors, and project services, you will ensure fire safety remains fully integrated across all aspects of estate management, maintenance, and development. This role requires a proactive and highly organised professional who can confidently manage compliance requirements across 24/7 operational buildings, including sleeping accommodation, custody suites, and specialist facilities.
What you’ll do
- Fire Risk Assessment (FRA) Management
- Procure and manage external providers to undertake Fire Risk Assessments across all Level 1 and 2 assets
- Develop and manage the annual FRA programme
- Maintain, update, and securely store FRA reports on the client’s document management system
- Ensure FRA data is provided within required timeframes
- Coordinate assessment activity with the client and ensure reports remain current and compliant
- Ensure estate data is accurately updated to support the FRA programme
- Fire Safety Systems, Equipment & Infrastructure
- Oversee the inspection, testing, maintenance, and certification of all fire safety systems, including:
- fire alarm systems
- firefighting equipment
- hydrants
- sprinkler systems
- wet and dry risers
- portable extinguishers
- fixed hose reels
- smoke ventilation systems
- gas suppression systems
- specialist fire equipment
- Additional responsibilities include
- ensuring all statutory inspections and certifications are current
- confirming remedial works are completed
- updating the asset register with new installations
- maintaining accurate planned preventative maintenance schedules
- providing records of the latest tests and certifications
- Project & Technical Support
- Provide expert advice to project teams on fire safety equipment placement, specification, and compliance
- Manage the installation of loose firefighting equipment and appliances
- Ensure fire safety requirements are embedded within project design, delivery, commissioning, and handover
- Training, Awareness & Support
- Deliver fire safety training and guidance to operational teams, staff, and building users
- Support Health & Safety teams with fire-related duties
- Promote a strong fire safety culture across the estate
- Provide specialist advice to Responsible Persons and Fire Wardens
- Performance, Reporting & Assurance
- Maintain accurate, audit-ready fire safety documentation
- Produce detailed compliance reports, updates, and evidence for the client
- Track actions, risks, issues, and performance metrics
- Support FOI requests, legal challenges, and government reporting requirements
What you bring
We’re looking for a knowledgeable and confident fire safety professional with proven experience working across complex, multi-site estates.
- Fire safety qualification such as:
- NEBOSH Fire Safety
- Fire Engineering
- Fire Risk Assessment qualification
Membership of IFSM, IFE, or equivalent is desirable
Strong knowledge of Northern Ireland fire safety legislation and British Standards
Minimum 5 years’ experience managing fire safety across complex estates
Proven experience overseeing FRAs and fire safety systems
Experience working with emergency services, contractors, and operational teams
Experience delivering fire safety training
