Job Introduction

This job puts good food on the table.

As a Kitchen Assistant at Sodexo in Nuffield Health Tunbridge Wells Hospital, you’ll play an important part in preparing and serving nutritious, comforting meals that support patient recovery and wellbeing. You’ll also help maintain a clean, safe environment in the kitchen and dining areas. With a cheerful attitude and great customer service, your presence can make a real difference in someone’s day. What you’ll do:

  • Support the kitchen team with food preparation, portioning and presentation, helping to deliver high-quality meals on time.
  • Follow food safety, HACCP, infection prevention and control procedures at all times.
  • Handle and respond appropriately to food allergies and special dietary requirements, helping to keep patients safe.
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness across the kitchen, dining and food service areas, including washing crockery, cutlery, trays and equipment.
  • Follow COSHH procedures and use cleaning products and protective equipment safely and correctly.
  • Check and record food temperatures, cleaning schedules and other required food safety documentation.
  • Support stock control, stock rotation and deliveries, reporting any issues or equipment faults to the Catering Manager.
  • Provide friendly, respectful and professional service to patients, visitors and colleagues, raising any concerns promptly.

What you bring:

  • A friendly, caring and professional approach, with a genuine desire to make a difference to patients and their experience.
  • Experience or an interest in food preparation and food service, ideally within a healthcare, hospitality or catering environment.
  • Good understanding of food safety, hygiene and HACCP principles, with the ability to follow procedures consistently.
  • Awareness of food allergies, special diets and the importance of preventing cross-contamination.
  • Knowledge of COSHH and safe use of cleaning products and equipment.
  • Ability to work efficiently as part of a team in a busy kitchen while maintaining high standards.
  • Good communication skills and a calm, respectful approach when working with patients, visitors and colleagues.
  • Level 2 Food Hygiene certificate (or willingness to obtain one, if appropriate).
