We’re looking for a reliable, compassionate and proactive Porter to join the team at Hereford County Hospital. You’ll play a vital role in keeping the hospital running smoothly by ensuring the safe movement of patients, equipment, medical gases, specimens, and essential supplies across all clinical areas. This is a hands‑on, fast‑paced role where your professionalism, empathy and ability to follow procedures make a real difference every day.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Safely transporting patients between wards, departments and theatres using wheelchairs, trolleys and beds
- Supporting emergency responses including fast bleep, resus calls and urgent transfers
- Handling blood products and specimens using the hospital’s tracking systems
- Moving patient records, notes, x‑rays and essential clinical items
- Replacing and transporting medical gas cylinders and restocking oxygen banks
- Assisting with the respectful transfer of deceased patients to the mortuary
- Delivering pharmacy items, equipment, linen and waste as required
- Providing clear directions and excellent customer care to patients, visitors and staff
- Maintaining high standards of hygiene, safety and professionalism at all times
What We’re Looking For
- Manual Handling training (or willingness to complete)
- Empathy, patience and a caring approach
- Ability to follow instructions and work safely
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- High standards of personal hygiene
- Ability to stay calm in challenging or emotional situations
- Basic literacy skills
- A flexible, positive work ethic and the ability to work independently or as part of a team
