We are looking for a reliable and multi‑skilled Property Maintenance Operative to support the upkeep and repair of facilities at HMP Peterborough. This role is key to ensuring a safe, secure, and well‑maintained environment for both staff and prisoners. You will carry out a mix of planned and reactive maintenance across a range of trades, contributing to the smooth day‑to‑day operation of the site. Working within a secure environment, you will play an important role in maintaining standards, supporting compliance, and minimising disruption to operations.
Main Responsibilities
- Carry out general maintenance and repair work across multiple trades (e.g. plumbing, carpentry, basic electrical)
- Respond to reactive maintenance issues and complete planned preventative maintenance tasks
- Ensure all work is completed in line with health, safety, and security procedures
- Maintain accurate records of work completed using systems and tools provided
- Work collaboratively with colleagues, departments, and contractors on site
- Participate in the on‑call and weekend rota to provide out‑of‑hours support
The Ideal Candidate
- Holds a Level 2 qualification in a relevant trade or has equivalent hands‑on experience
- Has experience in general property maintenance or a similar role
- Demonstrates a strong understanding of health and safety practices
- Able to work both independently and as part of a team
- Has good communication and problem‑solving skills
- Reliable, flexible, and able to work effectively in a secure and regulated environment
The successful candidate will be required to undergo an Enhanced Level 2 and Advanced DBS check.
Package Description
- Salary: £28,000 – £37,500 per annum (depending on experience)
