We are looking for an experienced and motivated Bricklaying Tutor to join the Industries Department at HMP & YOI Peterborough. This is a rewarding opportunity to support learners in developing practical bricklaying skills while helping to improve confidence, employability, and rehabilitation outcomes.

Working as part of the Education, Skills & Work team, you will deliver engaging vocational training that supports prisoners in gaining recognised skills and preparing for employment on release. HMP Peterborough is the UK’s first purpose‑built prison to house both men and women on the same site. With high levels of physical security, it provides needs‑led personal development services tailored to both populations. As a resettlement‑focused establishment, it offers a wide range of educational, vocational and behavioural programmes, alongside workshops, accredited training and employment opportunities that build practical skills for release. The site also includes dedicated healthcare, family services and faith facilities to support overall well‑being.

Main Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging bricklaying training sessions to learners within the prison environment.
  • Plan and prepare lessons, schemes of work, and practical learning activities.
  • Support learners in achieving vocational qualifications and developing practical trade skills.
  • Monitor learner attendance, progress, and achievement, providing constructive feedback and support.
  • Promote a safe and positive learning environment in line with security and health & safety procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to support learner development and continuous improvement within the department.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Proven experience as a qualified Bricklayer with strong industry knowledge.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate learners.
  • Passion for education, rehabilitation, and supporting individuals to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Flexible, proactive, and enthusiastic approach to teaching and learner engagement.
  • Ability to adapt teaching methods to support learners with different abilities and needs.
  • Teaching or assessor qualification and/or experience working within a prison environment would be advantageous.

Package Description

From £32,987.47 - £38,801.01 depending on qualifications and experience, 37.5 hours per week Monday - Friday.
