Salary: Up to £40,952.57 per annum plus Sodexo benefits
Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday (Plus on call rota)
Role Overview
As an Electrical Engineer at HMP Northumberland, you will play a vital role in maintaining the prison's essential infrastructure, directly contributing to the safety, security, and operational efficiency of the establishment.
Working within a prison environment means that compliance with safety regulations, statutory requirements, and operational procedures is critical. You will be responsible for ensuring all electrical work is carried out to the highest standards, maintaining accurate maintenance records, and completing all associated administration in a timely and compliant manner.
You will be expected to use your technical expertise and initiative to diagnose faults, identify solutions, and make informed decisions based on manufacturer documentation, technical schematics, and operational instructions.

Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned and reactive electrical maintenance and repairs.
- Inspect, test, fault‑find, and maintain electrical systems and equipment.
- Read and interpret technical drawings and manufacturer specifications.
- Complete all work to relevant trade standards and regulations.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and reports.
- Identify and report defective or unsafe equipment.
- Support other FM trades and escort specialist contractors when required.
- Participate in the on‑call rota and respond to emergency call‑outs.
- Comply with all Health & Safety, security, and company procedures.
Key Accountabilities
- Ensure electrical systems remain safe, compliant, and operational.
- Deliver maintenance activities to agreed standards and timescales.
- Maintain accurate documentation and audit records.
- Support the effective operation of the prison through teamwork and collaboration.
Person Specification
Essential
- Recognised Electrical Apprenticeship.
- Relevant electrical qualification (City & Guilds, ONC/HNC or equivalent).
- IET/IEE 18th Edition Wiring Regulations.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Experience in electrical maintenance and fault finding.
