Are you an experienced HR professional looking for an opportunity to make a real impact? We are seeking a proactive and resilient HR Advisor to join our People team at HMP Addiewell. As a key member of the HR function, you will act as a trusted advisor to managers across the site, providing expert guidance on recruitment, absence management, and employee relations matters. This is a varied and fast‑paced role where no two days are the same, offering the opportunity to influence people practices and support the delivery of an effective, engaged workforce.

About HMP Addiewell: HMP Addiewell is a high‑security establishment focused on helping individuals change the direction of their lives. We prioritise addressing offending behaviour through targeted programmes and close work with professionals, while providing education, training and employment opportunities that build practical skills. We also work with community partners to support positive futures after release.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Act as the first point of contact for managers on employee relations and absence management matters.
  • Support managers with end‑to‑end case management, including investigations, disciplinary, grievance, capability and absence cases.
  • Coordinate recruitment activity from vacancy approval through to onboarding and induction.
  • Work closely with hiring managers and the central resourcing team to ensure vacancies are progressed efficiently.
  • Build strong working relationships across the wider HR community, including shared services and regional teams.
  • Monitor and proactively manage employee relations cases and suspensions.
  • Support HR reporting, data analysis and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Assist with local HR projects and people‑focused initiatives.
  • Deputise for the HR Business Partner on identified topics and meetings.

Ideal Candidate:

Essential:

  • Previous experience working within an HR function.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with a range of stakeholders.
  • High level of confidentiality, professionalism and discretion.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • IT proficiency, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams.
  • Experience working in a fast‑paced environment.

Desirable:

  • CIPD qualification (or willingness to work towards one).
  • Experience of SAP HR systems.
