We are seeking a highly motivated Assistant Project Manager to support construction and infrastructure projects at Merville Barracks, Circular Road South, Colchester, CO2 7UT. The role involves assisting in cost estimation, contract administration, and financial reporting to ensure Change Projects are delivered on time and within budget. The ideal candidate will have experience in quantity surveying, strong analytical skills, and attention to detail.
What you’ll do:
- Cost & Change Management: Assist in preparing cost estimates, budgets, and financial reports (Change Reports & Change Orders) for construction and infrastructure projects. Monitor project costs and prepare cost forecasts to support effective change control.
- Procurement & Contract Administration: Assist in preparing tender documents, contracts, and procurement schedules. Support contract negotiations and manage subcontract agreements. Review and verify contractor claims and variations.
- Project Financial Control: Track project expenditures and ensure alignment with approved budget allocations. Prepare interim valuations, draft final accounts, monthly progress reports, and cash flow forecasts. Assist in risk assessment and value engineering processes.
- Compliance & Reporting: Ensure adherence to site security requirements and Sodexo health & safety standards. Maintain accurate records and documentation in line with Sodexo’s policies and procedures. Prepare commercial and financial reports for the Commercial Manager, Project Managers, and key stakeholders.
What you bring:
- Degree or working towards a degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related field.
- Familiarity with JCT & NEC contracts.
- Strong numerical, analytical, and communication skills.
- Proficient in MS Excel, SmartSheet, Asta Powerproject & or MS Project.
Desirable:
- Previous experience on defence or government projects.
- Membership with RICS, CIOB, or other professional bodies.
