As Building Craftsperson - Joiner at Sodexo, we’re looking for someone who keeps things running smoothly—the one who knows how to solve problems, offer expert advice, and ensure the hospital estate operates at its best. As a Facilities Specialist at Royal Stoke Hospital, you'll be the go-to expert for technical support and maintenance across equipment, building systems, and utility services.

What You’ll Do:

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on building fabric, including doors, windows, walls, floors and ceilings.
  • Inspect, maintain and repair fire doors and passive fire protection systems, ensuring compliance with relevant safety standards.
  • Respond to reactive maintenance issues, completing repairs to walls, ceilings, flooring, fixtures and fittings.
  • Undertake minor construction and joinery projects, including the installation of shelves, cupboards, locks and security equipment.
  • Maintain and repair ironmongery, door closers, locks, access control systems and other building components.
  • Work safely and in line with health and safety procedures, including risk assessments, PPE requirements and working at height regulations.
  • Support clinical and non-clinical environments by installing and adapting fixtures, fittings and specialist equipment as required.
  • Accurately record completed work using CAFM systems, while working collaboratively with colleagues to deliver maintenance activities within agreed timescales.

What You Bring:

  • Professional, reliable and conscientious with a strong work ethic and positive attitude.
  • Confident, self-motivated individual with the ability to assess situations and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, using a logical approach to diagnose and resolve issues effectively.
  • Able to work calmly under pressure, prioritising urgent tasks and responding appropriately to operational needs.
  • Good understanding of Health & Safety legislation, safe systems of work, risk assessments and method statements (RAMS).
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and report-writing skills, with a good level of computer literacy.
  • Relevant maintenance or engineering experience, ideally supported by a recognised apprenticeship, NVQ Level 2/3, or equivalent trade qualification.
  • Desirable experience and certifications include PASMA, IPAF, Fire Door Inspection/Maintenance, fire compartmentation and passive fire protection, with experience working in healthcare or other occupied environments.
