About the role
Are you passionate about food and excited to begin a career in the culinary world? Sodexo is looking for an enthusiastic Trainee Chef / Apprentice Chef to join our vibrant kitchen team at Denison Barracks, RG18 9TP. This is the perfect opportunity to learn from experienced professionals, gain hands‑on experience, and work towards a recognised qualification—all while contributing to a fast‑paced and rewarding environment.
What you’ll do
- Learn and develop core cooking and food preparation techniques from experienced chefs
- Assist in preparing, cooking, and presenting dishes to high standards
- Support with portion control, food presentation, and safe catering practices
- Maintain excellent personal and operational hygiene at all times
- Follow “clean as you go” principles and ensure working areas are tidy and safe
- Monitor, record, and maintain correct food temperatures (fridges, freezers, hot cabinets, serveries)
- Ensure proper disposal, storage, and decanting of food items
- Adhere to all Food Safety, Health & Safety, and COSHH regulations
- Comply with opening/closing procedures, safety checks, and kitchen handover processes
- Work collaboratively as part of a friendly, supportive team
- Continue developing your skills and knowledge throughout your apprenticeship
