The role
Socrates is a Web3 company building decentralised products with a globally distributed team. Weβre hiring a Compensation & Benefits (C&B) Specialist who can design global compensation strategy and run day-to-day operations (payroll, benefits, compliance). You will balance strategic reward design (cash, equity, token) with hands-on delivery, partnering with Finance, Legal/Tax and People Ops.
Responsibilities
Strategy & Governance
- Design and maintain pay philosophy, job architecture, grades and salary bands for global roles; ensure internal equity and market competitiveness (benchmarking via reputable market data providers).
- Partner with Legal/Tax to design equity and (where applicable) token-based incentives (e.g., stock options, vesting/cliffs, liquidity/lock-up mechanics), aligning to UK regulatory guidance.
- Own annual/bi-annual compensation cycles (merit, promotions, market adjustments, bonus/commission), including budgeting, analytics and manager enablement.
- Define sales & engineering incentive frameworks (e.g., quota plans, SPIFFs, project bonuses, on-chain bounty structures) with clear, auditable rules.
Operations (Hands-on Delivery)
- Run global payroll end-to-end, monthly changes, leavers/joiners, coordinate with external payroll provider.
- Administer benefits (medical, dental, life/DI, EAP, wellbeing, cycle-to-work, technology schemes); manage renewals, broker relations and comms.
- Maintain HRIS data integrity; produce reward dashboards (compa-ratio, range penetration, gender pay gap indicators, benefit take-up).
- Support global mobility/contractor needs.
- Ensure compliance with employment law and internal controls (SOX-style where applicable).
Business Partnering
- Advise leaders on offers, counter-offers, retention packages and total reward narratives.
- Train managers on pay decisions and benefit utilisation; build simple tools/calculators and guidance.
Requirements
- 3-5 years C&B/Total Rewards experience, including hands-on global payroll & benefits operations and compensation design.
- Proficiency in written and spoken Chinese is required
- Solid knowledge of global rewards compliance.
- Experience with equity plans and partnering on token or crypto-linked incentives (nice if from Web3/fintech/tech).
- Advanced Excel/Sheets and data storytelling; HRIS/payroll tooling (e.g., Workday, BambooHR, HiBob, ADP, Sage, Papaya/Deel).
- Pragmatic, detail-driven operator who can switch between policy design and daily execution in a high-change environment.
Nice to have
- CIPP or WorldatWork/Reward qualifications; experience in start-up/scale-up and distributed teams.
- Exposure to revenue/sales compensation and quota mechanics.
- Familiarity with on-chain contributor rewards and vesting/lock-up best practices.
