Job Description

As an Electrical Systems Engineer, you will play a key role within the Operations team at Datum, supporting the specification, delivery, and ongoing management of advanced monitoring systems across a diverse portfolio of high-profile infrastructure projects. This role offers exposure to a broad range of hardware and software technologies from multiple suppliers, with a strong focus on integrating these into robust, end-to-end monitoring solutions. You will progressively develop hands-on expertise in designing, building, and troubleshooting systems both in the laboratory and on live project sites.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the design, specification, and deployment of monitoring systems across multiple projects
  • Integrate hardware and software from various suppliers into cohesive system architectures
  • Assist with the build, configuration, and commissioning of systems in both lab and field environments
  • Troubleshoot and resolve electrical and system-level issues to ensure reliable performance
  • Support the maintenance and optimisation of online data platforms, ensuring accurate and timely data delivery to clients
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of firmware and system interfaces linking on-site hardware to cloud-based systems
  • Collaborate closely with site teams, project managers, and commercial teams to deliver solutions across the full project lifecycle

About You

  • Background or experience in electrical systems engineering (academic or industry-based)
  • Basic programming capability (e.g. scripting or embedded systems knowledge) is advantageous
  • A structured and analytical mindset with strong problem-solving abilities
  • Comfortable working both hands-on in the field and analytically in a technical environment
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work across multidisciplinary teams
