To support our ambitious growth plans, we have a great opportunity to join our Building and Real Estate Division. SOCOTEC is the market-leading independent provider of Building Control, and we pride ourselves on being the experts and leading authority on Building Control within the industry.

With a significant portfolio, from small specialist projects to some of the largest opportunities in the country, the Building Control team works alongside global leading designers, Project Managers, developers and clients including social media and tech giants, world leading financial and legal firms and government bodies. We are looking to hire a Regional Manager seeking a new and rewarding career and who enjoys working within a well-structured and amazing team environment.

The successful candidate will be leading and growing a team based in Stamford. This role will be covering the Stamford area, leading and growing the team. The role is to act as a leader for the local office, providing both technical and commercial support to the surveyors and assisting the Regional Director to successfully manage and grow the team, whilst ensuring compliance.

The tasks you will undertake will include (but are not limited to):

  • Inspections & Assessments: Conduct site inspections at various stages of construction for the purpose of compliance with building regulations. Review designs relating to structural, architectural and mechanical aspects, building materials construction design specifications and fire strategies to confirm adherence to the relevant Building Regulations and allied legislation. Assist our clients with Building Regulations Consultancy Advice where we are not acting as the RBCA.
  • Compliance & Regulations: Acting as a Registered Building Inspector, undertake to perform your duties and obligations within your competency, skills and registered class. Supervise others to perform their duties who are at a lower RBI class or who are graduates under training. Interpret and enforce national and local building regulations, including fire safety, energy efficiency, accessibility and environmental requirements. Issue formal notices and reports on any breaches of compliance with the Building Safety Act 2022 and allied legislation. Adhere to the code of conduct for the Registered Building Inspectors.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Prepare detailed inspection reports, compliance certificates and documentation for regulatory approval processes. Maintain accurate records of inspections, findings and recommendations, ensuring traceability and compliance with local authority requirements.
  • Continuous Learning & Development: Keep up to date with changes in building codes, regulations and industry best practices.
  • Business Development: Undertake fee quoting and deal with enquiries and opportunities. Support clients by providing updates on legislation, regulations and guidance. Overview/retain responsibility for the office profit and loss. Support the Director pertaining to office budgets, resourcing and income targets.
  • General: Oversee fair and effective work distribution across team members. Serve as first point of escalation for team concerns, making decisions where appropriate and escalating critical issues to senior management. Monitor compliance with SOCOTEC processes, Standard Operating Procedures and Quality Assurance systems. Promote open communication to enhance team efficiency. Identify opportunities to optimise operations and reduce inefficiencies. Provide mentorship and support to team members, with special attention to developing junior staff. Conduct performance reviews and regular 1:1 meetings in coordination with direct line managers. Act as the first line in the event of any formal complaint.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Membership of RICS, CABE or equivalent (or qualified by suitable experience) ensuring CPD requirements are met thereafter to broaden and develop skills.
  • Ideally demonstrate compliance through registering as an RBI.
  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills.
  • Ability to build relationships with clients and deliver excellent client care.
  • A self-starting attitude and an ability to work independently as well as part of a large project team.
  • Experience of solving complex issues through analysis, development of suitable solutions and the implementation of these solutions.
