Compartmentation Team Leader (Fire door Specialist) – SOCOTEC. Competitive Salary + Car Allowance. Field Based.
To support our ambitious growth plans, we have a great opportunity to join our Building and Real Estate Division. SOCOTEC’s Fire Engineering and Fire Safety teams provide an award-winning, flexible, and forward-thinking approach, as well as a high level of technical capability, providing our clients with cost-effective and practical solutions for the full range of fire safety problems.
The focus of this new exciting role is to support the Technical & Operations Director and our ambitious growth plans within SOCOTEC UK Fire Safety Practice. The Compartmentation Team Leader will play a key role and will have responsibility to grow the business and lead a team in the inspection & assessment of fire compartment lines and Fire Doors providing assurance to our clients in compliance with current legislation and standards across various building projects.
This is a pivotal position that requires both technical expertise in passive fire protection and fire door surveying with strong leadership skills to drive the team’s operational efficiency and adherence to the highest standards of fire safety. Working across a variety of projects both autonomously and as part of a wider team, tasks you will be required to undertake as part of your role include:
Responsibilities
- Team Leadership & Development: Lead, mentor, and develop a team of compartmentation and fire door inspectors, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous development and improvement
- Technical Expertise and Project Oversight: Supervise compartmentation surveys, inspections, and risk assessments across various types of buildings, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and high standards of quality
- Provide technical guidance on compartmentation strategies, fire-stopping solutions, and relevant building regulations, including BS 9999 and Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005
- Lead complex or high-stakes assessments, directly interfacing with clients and stakeholders as needed
- Review and approve detailed reports and recommendations prepared by team members, ensuring they meet SOCOTEC’s quality standards and client expectation in line with the scope of works
- Compliance and Quality Control: Ensure team practices align with all relevant fire safety legislation, building regulations, and internal quality standards
- Manage the documentation and tracking of compartmentation inspections, findings, and rectifications, maintaining robust audit trails for compliance purposes
- Liaise with Quality Assurance teams to conduct regular audits, ensuring the reliability and integrity of SOCOTEC’s compartmentation and fire door inspection service
- Client Engagement and Relationship Management: Serve as the primary point of contact for key clients, addressing inquiries, providing updates, and ensuring a high level of satisfaction
- Collaborate with clients to develop tailored compartmentation strategies that align with their fire safety objectives and risk profiles
- Lead client presentations, report debriefs, and discussions on recommended actions or compliance improvements
- Business Development and Strategy: Support the Fire Safety Practice Director in identifying new business opportunities and developing proposals for prospective clients
- Keep abreast of industry trends, changes in fire safety regulations, and emerging technologies in compartmentation and fire-stopping
- Contribute to the development of SOCOTEC’s compartmentation services, including potential new service offerings, improved methodologies, and technology integration
Qualifications
- Degree in Fire Safety Engineering, Building Surveying, or a related field; professional certification in fire safety or passive fire protection (e.g., IFE, ASFP)
- Minimum of 5 years in fire compartmentation, passive fire protection, or a related area, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or team leadership role
- In-depth understanding of UK fire safety regulations, compartmentation principles, and passive fire protection methods; proficiency with industry standards such as BS 9999, BS 476, and EN 1366
- Demonstrated ability to lead, develop, and motivate a technical team, with strong project management skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with experience in client-facing roles and the ability to present complex information clearly
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with attention to detail in evaluating compartmentation risks and assessing compliance requirements
- Member of relevant professional bodies, such as the Institute of Fire Engineers (IFE), the Association for Specialist Fire Protection (ASFP), or equivalent
