Are you interested in being a Regional Manager? This could be your opportunity to excel as a Regional Manager for one of our Building Control teams, playing a vital role in supporting SOCOTEC's continued success. As SOCOTEC grows, so do our teams. We're looking for a dedicated Regional Manager to join our Building & Real Estate division and wear the SOCOTEC badge with pride. We are seeking a proactive, reliable, and flexible Regional Manager to join the wider Building Control team. In this role, you will be covering the office area whilst acting as a leader for the local team, providing both technical and commercial support to the Inspectors and assisting the Regional Director to successfully manage and grow the team, whilst ensuring compliance. This is a hybrid role, requiring you to be in the office at least 3 days per week.
The tasks you will undertake will include (but are not limited to):
- Conduct inspections and provide Building Regulations compliance services – Perform site inspections at various construction stages to verify compliance with Building Regulations, review structural, architectural, and mechanical designs, building materials, construction specifications, and fire strategies to confirm adherence to relevant Building Regulations and allied legislation, and assist clients with Building Regulations consultancy advice where SOCOTEC is not acting as the Registered Building Control Approver.
- Act as Registered Building Inspector and Lead Office Operations – Perform duties and obligations within your competency, skills, and registered class, supervise lower-class RBIs and graduate trainees, interpret and enforce national and local building regulations (including fire safety, energy efficiency, accessibility, and environmental requirements), issue formal notices and reports on breaches under the Building Safety Act 2022, and oversee fair work distribution, monitor compliance with SOCOTEC processes and Quality Assurance systems, and serve as first point of escalation for team concerns.
- Manage business development and office commercial performance – Undertake fee quoting and handle enquiries and opportunities, support clients by providing updates on legislation and guidance, oversee office profit and loss responsibilities, support the Regional Director with office budgets, resourcing, and income targets, prepare comprehensive inspection reports and compliance documentation, conduct performance reviews and regular 1:1 meetings with team members, and act as first line in the event of formal complaints.
Qualifications:
- Professional qualification and regulatory registration with leadership capability – Hold membership of RICS, CABE or equivalent (or be qualified by suitable experience), ensure CPD requirements are met to broaden and develop skills, and ideally demonstrate compliance through registration as an RBI, combined with proven ability to lead and mentor team members with special attention to developing junior staff.
- Excellent communication, relationship building, and client care skills – Demonstrate strong interpersonal abilities to build relationships with clients and deliver excellent client care, promote open communication to enhance team efficiency, and work effectively both independently and as part of large project teams.
- Self‐starting problem‐solver with commercial acumen – Show ability to analyse complex issues, develop and implement suitable solutions, identify opportunities to optimise operations and reduce inefficiencies, and maintain technical knowledge by keeping up to date with changes in building codes, regulations, and industry best practices.
