We have a great opportunity for a dedicated Specialist In-Situ Testing Technician to join our Infrastructure Division and wear the SOCOTEC badge with pride.

We are looking for a reliable, flexible and driven Senior Specialist In-Situ Testing Technician to join our Geotechnical team. As a member of Geotechnical, you will be exposed to a variety of unique projects throughout the country. It is key that you have the balance to be proactive and independent, while simultaneously being a strong team player. Good management skills, and a strong understanding with experience in the industry are vital in order to succeed in this role.

The tasks you will undertake will include (but are not limited to):

  • Cone penetration testing (CPT) using piezocones & other associated devices from a variety of platforms to UKAS standards
  • Pressure meter testing using self-boring pressure meter (SBP), high pressure dilatometer (HPD) and cone pressure meter (CPM)
  • Calibration and maintenance of testing equipment
  • Interpretation and reporting of testing results

To be successful in this role, you will be able to demonstrate:

  • Leading the operation of a variety of pressure meter investigations using primarily high-pressure dilatometer & self-boring pressure meter along with cone pressure meter and flat dilatometer from a variety of testing platforms to SOCOTEC standards
  • Utilising the HPD software to provide high quality soil data, site records and test data in a timely manner
  • Organising mobilisation and demobilisation of all sites and testing equipment
  • Carrying out work in accordance with company and site-specific Health and Safety rules
  • Calibration and daily maintenance of testing equipment including having a proactive approach to fault finding of defects in testing equipment whilst on site
  • Developing an understanding of Cone Penetration Testing techniques
  • Borehole permeability tests
  • Data collection for groundwater and gas monitoring instrumentation, including standpipes, vibrating wire, pneumatic and hydraulic type piezometers, and 'diver' type pressure transducers/loggers
  • Data collection for ground displacement instrumentation, including inclinometers, extensometers, hydrostatic profile gauges
  • Collection of water and gas samples from on-site borehole installations
  • Acting as Technician on large sites, preparing core samples and assisting the Logging Engineers
  • Keeping accurate field records of tasks performed
  • Delivery / collection of consumables, samples and equipment to and from site
