Are you an experienced hardware test engineer who wants to start their journey towards management? Maybe you're already seen as a team mentor?
We are on the look-out for a hands-on Lead Test & Reliability Engineer to join a well-established UK engineering business designing and manufacturing sensor products used globally in safety-critical applications. This role sits at the heart of product development. You’ll lead reliability, verification, and validation testing across both existing and next-generation hardware, while staying close to the lab and the detail. It’s a mix of technical leadership, practical testing, and problem solving.
The role:
- Lead and coordinate reliability, verification, and validation activities
- Design and execute environmental, lifetime, and system-level tests
- Develop test plans, methods, and clear technical reports
- Carry out failure analysis and reliability investigations
- Design and maintain bespoke test rigs and infrastructure
- Use Python to control test equipment, analyse data, and visualise results
- Work closely with R&D, product development, manufacturing, and quality
- Manage test priorities and internal resources
Essential skills:
- Degree or HND in a relevant STEM subject (or equivalent experience)
- Experience in a product development or manufacturing environment
- Strong understanding of reliability, environmental, and lifetime testing
- Systems reliability experience (hardware and firmware)
- Confident working hands-on with lab equipment
- Experience scripting in Python, LabVIEW, or similar
Nice to have's:
- Statistical analysis or reliability data analysis experience
- Exposure to formal quality systems or Six Sigma
- Knowledge of gas sensing, VOCs, or analytical instrumentation
