Product Design Engineer Location: Suffolk Department: Technical Role Type: Permanent Salary: £45,000 – £50,000 Full On-Site 5 days a week Reporting to the Head of Technical, the Senior Design Engineer will be an integral part of the design team, responsible for both customer-specific projects and internal product development. You’ll take full ownership of designing injection moulding projects and manage them from initial concept and CAD modelling through to prototyping and verification. This role requires a solid understanding of design and development of injection moulded plastics, as well as system integration to create effective product solutions. Your Responsibilities Lead and support the design and development of injection moulded and fabricated plastic products from concept to production, including 3D modelling and engineering drawings Work across multiple projects, adapting to changing requirements and schedules while maintaining a focus on delivering high-quality engineering solutions Manage and ensure project delivery in line with time, budget, and technical specifications Complete and oversee design changes according to company processes Liaise with external suppliers (toolmakers, material providers) and customers to ensure expectations are met Collaborate with internal departments (production, planning, purchasing, sales) to support product development Participate in and lead design reviews providing insightful feedback and creative improvements Use the MRP system to generate and manage Bills of Materials effectivelyRequired qualifications: An engineering/design qualification (BEng/BSc, HND, HNC, BTEC or similar)Skills: Proficient in 3D CAD systems (Solid Edge preferred, SolidWorks also considered) Proven experience in product design, drawing creation, and team supervision/management Strong knowledge of engineering thermoplastics, injection moulding, and machining processes Ability to clearly communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences Deep understanding of DFM (Design for Manufacture), cost analysis, and team management Skilled in DFMEA, PFMEA, and design qualification processes Capable of conceptualising, designing, and validating products to customer requirements Experience working with external toolmakers and internal cross-functional teams Ability to peer review moulded component designs Strong task and project prioritisation skills Experience with injection mould tooling and part design Proficient in tolerance analysisGreat to Haves: Previous work in a manufacturing environment CAM software knowledge (preferably MasterCAM) Familiarity with electro-mechanical systems General understanding of electronic design principles Experience using 3D printing and rapid prototyping technologies
