MECHANICAL ENGINEER CONTRACT / Outside IR35 / Oxford\\n\\nSoCode Engineering have partnered with a University spin-out revolutionizing diagnostic testing for resistant infections. The cutting-edge optical-based system aims to reduce infection diagnosis time from days to minutes, providing rapid insights for targeted antibiotic use. They are currently in the pre-clinical phase, building the first prototype, and working towards a functional demonstrator by the end of the year.

This is the mission.\\n\\nThe Role\\nWe are seeking a Mechanical Engineer with expertise in microfluidics to help develop the novel diagnostic system. The role focuses on solving key challenges in single-cell detection and cell isolation from complex biological fluids, particularly septic blood. You will work closely with biologists, fluidic engineers, and optical specialists to bridge the gap between biology and microfluidic engineering.\\n\\nKey Responsibilities\\n\\nDesign and develop microfluidic systems for single-cell manipulation and cell isolation from complex samples.\\nOptimize fluidic channel geometries and interactions to enhance detection efficiency.\\nWork alongside biologists to understand the interaction of cells in confined fluidic spaces.\\nCollaborate with optical engineers to integrate spectroscopy with microfluidic sample presentation.\\nSupport prototype development, testing, and iteration towards a functional demonstrator.Requirements\\n\\nExperience in microfluidics, particularly in biological or medical applications.\\nStrong understanding of fluid dynamics, cell manipulation, and lab-on-a-chip systems.\\nAbility to develop and prototype fluidic systems with minimal reliance on fabrication.\\nHands-on experience with diagnostics, medical devices, or bioengineering is a plus.\\nComfortable working in an agile, lean startup environment.Why Join Us?\\n\\nWork on a groundbreaking technology with the potential to transform disease diagnostics.\\nBe part of a highly skilled and growing team, backed by leading investors.\\nInfluence the direction of a company that aims to remain lean and focused on innovation.\\nCollaborate with top experts in microfluidics, optics, and biology.\\nOpportunity to tackle complex technical challenges with a tangible real-world impact. \\nThis role has been deemed outside IR35 and will be onsite every day in Oxford.
