The Technology team for BA LLP is a critical enabler of the firm’s strategic objectives, responsible for developing, maintaining, and innovating the technology platforms that support independent equity research and cash equity execution services. The team ensures the delivery of robust, scalable, and secure technology solutions across Europe and Asia, fostering collaboration between global stakeholders and driving digital transformation initiatives. By leveraging technologies and agile methodologies, the Technology team empowers the business to maintain competitive advantage, operational excellence, and compliance with regulatory standards.

Summary of Key Purposes of the Role

  • FIX Connectivity Subject Matter Expert
  • To certify and onboard external clients and vendors to trade electronically via the FIX Protocol with Bernstein
  • To work closely with different business units and other IT teams on the implementation of new functionality within the electronic trading environment, specifically how it impacts and interacts with the FIX Connectivity layer
  • To provide first and second line production support to business teams, clients, and vendors with regards to the diagnosis of issues on the FIX platform

Responsibilities

  • To perform the full lifecycle of client FIX onboarding including liaison with clients, full end to end testing, static data setup, etc.
  • To be able to write enrichments or other rules to perform manipulations to normalise FIX messages from a client into the Bernstein trading platforms
  • To work directly with major FIX networks and OMS providers to enhance and improve their electronic offering available to clients of Bernstein Autonomous LLP and BSG France
  • To provide first and second line production support to business teams, clients, and vendors with regards to the diagnosis of issues on the FIX platform
  • To work closely with the business to estimate, prioritise and schedule work across clients
  • To provide advice to the business on the implementation of client specific functionality
  • To manage the day-to-day workload of client onboardings and to keep the business informed of progress
  • Communication with other areas with the organisation – IT, Operations, COO, etc – in relation to new client onboarding and associated trading and middle office platform requirements.
  • To be pro-active and escalate risks and issues to their line manager on the setup or onboarding of a client connection
  • Strong problem-solving ability to create solutions to bespoke client requirements
  • Ensure all documentation is updated as necessary, especially when a new product or workflow is brought on
  • Review processes and present solutions for automation to reduce time to delivery or costs.
  • Identification of opportunities for automation, such as repetitive certification and testing through scripting in a modern language such as Python.

Profile required

  • FIX protocol Subject Matter Expert, ideally experienced in a similar investment banking environment
  • Extensive knowledge & practical experience of using trading platforms, ideally experience in developing and/or supporting them
  • Practical experience using Raptor trading systems FIX engine or a close alternative (UL Bridge, Fidessa Portal etc.)
  • Knowledge of Python, Perl, etc. and ability to use the language to write scripts to improve efficiency of day-to-day tasks
  • Unix/Linux environment experience
  • Previous experience of software development lifecycle process and working in an Agile Feature Team is preferred
  • Knowledge of trading workflows across equities (DMA, Algo, Care, PT, RFQ)
  • Ability to manage multiple client onboardings, projects and production issues at the same time
  • Ability to troubleshoot connection and production issues from first principles
  • Ability to build strong working relationships with co-workers, the business, external clients and external brokers, venues
  • Capable of working in an autonomous fashion or as part of a larger project team
  • Excellent communication (written & verbal) and good inter-personal skills
  • Aims to deliver solutions of high quality
