We are urgently recruiting for flexible Bank/Relief Support Staff to help us continue to deliver high quality services to vulnerable people in the community. PCCS is recruiting Floating Care and Support Workers to join our outreach services across Lambeth, Lewisham and across London. This position will involve prompting personal care, environmental support, and some outreach services. It will suit both individuals with broad experience working in residential or community settings but also those new to the system who are looking for their first step into social care.

ABOUT THE SERVICE

Penrose Community Care & Support (PCCS) specializes in working with those living with mental ill-health who also have additional support to maintain independence. These clients will require additional encouragement for their personal care within their homes but also escorting to appointments and other outreach services. Our clients are all different, many of them may have a mental health diagnosis; physical or sensory disabilities; some may have a history of substance abuse; and some may have been involved in the criminal justice system. All of them need our help to lead good, happy, productive lives.

We’re looking for enthusiastic team players, who are passionate about people and enhancing the health and well-being of our service users. Ideally, you will have experience working with service users promoting diversity, dignity and equality and always ready to join in or undertake a number of tasks that will help the team create an engaging environment for our service users. Additionally, you will have a caring nature coupled with a positive attitude and be prepared to work across our organisation in various locations. Whether you’re studying, managing a family or even looking to change career, joining our flexible Bank team allows you to work the days that suit your lifestyle. As one of our valued Bank practitioners, you can enjoy flexible working, whilst gaining valuable knowledge and experience within a charitable organisation.

  • Encouraging care for vulnerable adults with mental health issues or other complex needs, including domestic help.
  • To assist service users to engage with the community and accessing community services.
  • To encourage independence and improve the skill sets of service users.
  • To build professional relationships with service users and develop unique approaches to achieve person-centred care.
  • Involve service users as much as possible in exercising choice, control, and timing of their support.
  • Assist service users to attend appointments, and training courses and expand on any other interests they might have.
  • To document the care delivered in a professional and sensitive manner.
  • Able to work at least 5 days a week (including weekends, on alternate shifts).

KEY CRITERIA

What we would like, but not essential:

  • Experience working in partnership with service users, care managers, and significant others.
  • Experience in working within a regulatory framework.
  • Ability to work independently with clients who may display behaviour that challenges and/or mental health diagnosis.
  • Must be willing and able to perform personal care activities.
  • Good written and oral communication skills in English.
  • A working knowledge of DOLS, Whistleblowing, and CQC guidelines regarding consent and reporting abuse or happy to be trained.
  • Previous experience with users with substance abuse issues, learning difficulties, autism, or complex mental health needs (Desirable).
