About the Role

Our ICT team is looking for a volunteer to run new digital inclusion workshops for residents and participants. Many people we support struggle with IT access, which makes everyday tasks like paying bills, applying for jobs, or filling in forms really challenging. These workshops will make a big difference to them! You could plan themed sessions using SIG’s spare IT or host drop-ins where people bring their own devices and get help with specific challenges. Your role is to guide and support them so they learn the skills to manage independently in the future, not to do it for them!

What is the Commitment?

Workshops will be primarily based at our Victoria Street office, with other ad hoc sessions offered at service locations in Luton and Bedfordshire. We can be flexible on dates and times to fit around your other commitments. We ask that you are able to commit to a minimum of 6 months to make the cost of DBS checks and training worthwhile for the charity.

About You

We are looking for volunteers who are friendly, reliable, non-judgemental and patient. You will need:

  • Strong IT skills (working knowledge of Microsoft, iOS and Android systems).
  • Clear communication and patience to support learning in a non-judgmental way.
  • Confidence to lead sessions independently.
  • Flexibility to teach planned topics while responding to individual needs.

What You Can Expect From Us

To support you and set you up for success in your volunteering role with us, you can expect that we will:

  • Work with you to find times and locations that suit you and promote your workshops to residents and participants.
  • Provide spare laptops and phones to keep your sessions practical and interactive.
  • Reimburse you for agreed expenses relating to your volunteering.
  • Welcome you warmly into our team and support you to get the most from your experience.
  • Recognise and celebrate your contribution to the team!
  • Provide references to confirm your achievements and contributions upon request.
  • Provide the training and guidance you need to understand the context of our services and to keep you and residents and participants safe.
  • Provide regular supervision and opportunities to provide feedback on your experience.
  • Provide access to reflective practice sessions with a therapist provided by an external provider to support mental health and wellbeing at volunteering.
  • You will be eligible to register with Blue Light Discount Card.
