This Local Authority are looking for a Sen Mediation And Tribunal Officer. Details of the role are:

  • Ensure the Authority meets its statutory duties under the Education Act 1996, and the DfE SEN (Special Educational Needs) Code of Practice and subsequent amendments to this legislation through development of a specialised service that covers mediation and tribunals.
  • Manage, arrange and prepare work relating to mediation as this is a statutory requirement, where parents of or a young person intend to appeal to the SEN & Disability Tribunal (SENDIST) in respect of anything done by the Local Authority or the content of a Statement/EHCP maintained by the Authority.
  • Make decisions representing the Authority at the mediation session with regard to the best outcome for the child or young person and Councils policies and budgetary constraints.
  • Ensure that agreements reached through mediation are implemented within required timescales.
  • Establish and manage an LA ‘strategy’ on how tribunals will be managed.
  • Manage, arrange and prepare work relating to appeals to SENDIST relating to statutory assessments and Statements of special educational needs/Education Health and Care Plans with regard to the best outcome for the child or young person and Councils policies and budgetary constraints.
