About the Department

The Doctoral School support team delivers comprehensive, high-quality administrative services, advice, and guidance to students, researchers, and academic colleagues, ensuring they receive expert, timely, and accessible support across a broad spectrum of activities. In addition, the team provides essential business, operational, and management support to Heads of Department and collaborates closely with colleagues across central professional services.

About the Role

  • Provides administrative leadership and management to the Doctoral School team and oversees the day-to-day operation of the Doctoral School.
  • Provides support to the Doctoral School Manager and works closely with the Academic Support Manager on day-to-day functions and other initiatives.
  • Leads projects and activities to deliver the Doctoral School strategic plan as agreed.
  • Ensures Doctoral School regulations, processes and procedures are operating effectively and are in alignment with those of SOAS’s Academic Regulations and sector good practice.
  • Provides dedicated coordination across the PGR admissions process to strengthen governance, ensure consistent and compliant decision-making, support Admissions Tutors through structured guidance and training, oversee external supervisor HR and finance processes, and coordinate recruitment activity to enhance operational efficiency, reduce risk, and support the achievement of doctoral recruitment targets.
  • Serves as the key contact for the internal grants process, providing coordination and oversight to ensure clear communication, timely submissions, and compliance with institutional requirements, thereby supporting efficient administration and a consistent experience for applicants and academic staff.

Successful candidates will need to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK or have limited leave to remain in the UK and associated right to work for the duration of their employment with SOAS, in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006.
